Joining the Library
Membership is free to all residents or ratepayers of the Ashburton District. To register as a member, we will need a photo ID for identification. It's easy to register, simply click here to fill in the form.
If you are a visitor to the district, you are welcome to join us as temporary members.
Borrowing
It is essential to bring your library card if you want to borrow. You are legally responsible for all materials borrowed on your card and for any charges incurred.
A child's application form must be signed by an adult who will take responsibility for items issued on that card and for any charges relating to the card. These rules are made to safeguard both you and the library.
Please do not lend your card to other people and let us know immediately if your card has been lost or stolen. The replacement charge for a library card is $4.30.
Please let us know quickly if you have a change of address, phone number or other details.
Loan Period / Renewals
The standard loan is for 3 weeks and DVDs are issued for one week. Items may be renewed at the library, over the phone, online or by using the Ashburton Public Library App. Please have your card number ready when you phone. Three renewals on books / magazines, and one on DVDs, are allowed. Items can't be renewed if another borrower has placed a reserve.
Returning Materials
When the library is closed items may be returned to the afterhours bins. Please note that items will not be removed from your card until the library reopens.
