Wikipedia Photo Day with Dr. Mike Dickison

About the event

Wikipedia takes all its photos from an open image library, Wikimedia Commons. WikiCommons has 117 million freely usable photos, drawings, sound files, and video clips, and your photos could be there too. If you want to learn how to share your photos with the world and have them seen by millions, come along to this one-day practical workshop organised by Ashburton Art Gallery and Museum and Ashburton’s Wikipedian at Large, Dr Mike Dickison.

As well as a tutorial in uploading and categorising photos, we’ll take a photo walk and practice uploading our shots. Keen participants will then be assigned buildings or places around Ashburton that need photos, and will fan out to take more pictures. At the end of the workshop we’ll reconvene at the Art Gallery and Museum, upload all our photos, and the best will be added to Wikipedia.

When: Sunday 23 November, 10:00 am to 4:00 pm with lunch provided.

You will need: A camera or phone, and a laptop to download photos onto and upload to WikiCommons with.

Cost: Free, but you will need to register in advance for catering purposes. Register here: https://events.humanitix.com/wikipedia-photo-day-with-mike-dickison
