Water pipe renewals under way from 7 July

Work to renew water pipes on Philip Street and Tancred Street in Ashburton will begin on 7 July, with road closures in the affected areas.
- The Philip Street works are between Oak Grove and Grigg Street, and the first phase will be from Oak Grove to Walker Street, which will be closed to traffic (except for residents) from Monday 7 July. There will be additional closures along Philip Street as the works progress towards Grigg Street.
- The Tancred Street works are between William Street and Chalmers Avenue, and that section of Tancred Street will be closed to traffic (except for residents) when the work starts later in the week.
The new pipelines are being installed through open trenching, so residents can expect to see machinery in action. Access to properties will be maintained during the construction period, which is expected to be about six weeks.
The work is being carried out by Rooney Earthmoving, who was recently awarded the Council contract to renew urban watermains and rider mains.
