Check your enrolment details before 1 August

Published: 25 July 2025

Want to vote in the Local Elections? Time is running out to make sure you are enrolled and your name and correct details are on the preliminary electoral roll for the Ashburton District.

You can check copies of the roll at Te Whare Whakatere (Ashburton Library and Civic Centre) in Ashburton, Café Mayfield, Methven iHub and Rakaia Mobil until noon on Friday 1 August.

If your name doesn’t appear, then you’ll need to contact the Electoral Commission online at vote.nz. You can also get in touch with the commission by texting your name and address to 3676 to get a form sent to you, or call them on 0800 36 76 56; you can also send them an email at enquiries@elections.govt.nz.

Having your name on the electoral roll, with your correct address, means you will receive voting papers for the local elections.

If you enrol or update your address after 1 August, you won’t get your voting papers sent to you in the mail – you’ll need to contact Council’s electoral officer and make a special vote.

The last day you can enrol to vote in the local elections is Friday 10 October.

Chief Executive Hamish Riach said people nominating a candidate to run as mayor or for council, the Methven Community Board or other roles, must also be on the electoral roll.

“There’s only a week to go now before nominations close, so if you’re going to stand then make sure your nominators are properly enrolled and their details are up to date so that lodging your nomination is as smooth as possible.”

A list of current nominations for the Ashburton District is available at voteashburton.nz, along with useful information for candidates during the campaign period.

Voting papers will be delivered by post from 9 September and people can vote until 11 October.
