Youth Council celebrate new members with pizza
Ashburton Youth Council members have tripled their numbers, and celebrated recruitment success by adding pizza to the agenda of their latest meeting.
A campaign to boost numbers has been fronted by "veteran" members Sophia, Maddie and Isabel, with videos and advertising on YouTube and social media channels, and through presentations at their school.
The first full meeting included pizza and a presentation from Emergency Management Officer Jim Henderson, who invited them all to the AF8 roadshow, to learn about how they could help in the event of a big alpine earthquake.
Cr Russell Ellis, one of two councillors on the youth council, said it was great to see some fresh faces around the table.
"It's so good to see these teens passionate about making the Ashburton District a better place for young people too."
While the recruitment campaign is wrapping up, young people aged 12-24 can join the youth council at any time - go to ashburtondc.govt.nz to see how to join the team.
