What goes in your rubbish and recycling bins

The global markets that process New Zealand's plastics have changed and that means that from 1 August 2020 our recycling habits need to change.
In addition to clean tins, cans, paper and magazines, make sure only hard rigid plastic grades 1, 2 and 5 are put into your yellow recycling bin (without the lids). All other plastics including grades 3, 4, 6, 7, those without a grade, plastic lids and all soft plastics such as cling wrap and bread bags go in the rubbish.
How do I know if the plastic is 1, 2 or 5?
Look for the little recycling triangle printed on the plastic bottle or container. If the plastic doesn't have the triangle and the number inside isn't 1, 2 or 5, then it needs to go in the rubbish.
Why can't lids go in recycling?
