Busy property market inundating council services

Mid Canterbury residents in the housing market are being advised to allow adequate time for building compliance checks and property information requests, as the Council is experiencing a significant influx in regulatory activity.
The district is seeing a high number of house sales and as many people are carrying out due diligence once their house is on the market, the Council is being inundated with time sensitive requests for compliance checks and sign-offs on renovations and installations.
Additionally, Land Information Memorandum (LIM) requests are in hot demand.
Strategy & Compliance Group Manager Jane Donaldson says the Council has seen a significant increase in building requests in recent weeks, which is pushing request times up.
"Traditionally, these requests are processed fairly quickly but with so much activity happening lately these requests are taking a little longer than usual.
"We are working quickly to meet demand and process requests as efficiently as possible, but we may not always be able to meet customer deadlines at short notice during this busy period. Our advice to residents is to allow adequate time for these things to be checked off. For LIMs, that means allowing for the full 10 days to receive the report."
To avoid delays and stress, the Council is also recommending residents check that all work on their property has been signed off before going to market.
