New splashdeck surface being installed

Remediation work on the splashdeck at EA Networks Centre has begun, with the toddler pool and leisure pool closed to the public for the next two weeks.
The under-performing rubber splashdeck surface is being removed and a new one laid, but the work is not affecting the lane pool or learn-to-swim lessons, which are on as usual.
People and Facilities Group Manager Sarah Mosley said the splashdeck surface was being replaced by Lifefloor, a widely used product in aquatic areas.
“The work is being done at no cost to council and we’re also taking the opportunity to do some safety improvements to the steam room floor.
“We’re looking forward to the new surface, which should perform well for years, and we’re trying to ensure there is little disruption for other visitors to the aquatic area while the work is being done.”
Ms Mosley said the whole pool area would be closed on the weekend of 18 and 19 October, while aquatic staff retrained for a new international lifeguard qualification.
EA Networks Centre will be the first facility in New Zealand to fully adopt the international programme.
“Our goal is and has always been to prevent incidents, and we’re equipping our team with new tools and skills to provide the best possible response. This new international programme will really lift the standard.”
The aquatic area will be open as usual on Monday 20 October.
