Stockwater Exit: Good turnout to info session

There was a good turnout to the public information session at the Ruapuna Hall last week, when about 35 people came along to hear about the future of the Cracroft and Klondyke stockwater intakes.
The discussion was wide ranging and Council reinforced the message that property owners receiving stockwater from these intakes needed to respond to requests about their future need for water if the intakes were to close.
Deputy mayor Richard Wilson said Council had been talking about its exit from the stockwater delivery service for several years.
“We made a decision in the 2024-34 Long Term Plan to get out of the stockwater business and since that point we have been considering the future of our 17 intakes. We are working through the list and surveying stockwater users, and people need to respond to the letter or staff that reach out to them.
“That feedback will help Council advise on suitable alternative stockwater providers for those that still need the water.”
An online survey is currently open to the wider community for those interested in the Cracroft and Klondyke stockwater intakes.
Council has already decided to close the Pudding Hill stockwater race network, and that will take effect from September this year.
The next intakes under consideration are the Combined Springs and a public information session will be held next month or so.
The next meeting of the Stockwater Exit Transition Group is planned for Wednesday 4 March, at 1.30pm. The meeting is open to the public and the agenda will be online two days prior.
