Short shutdown planned for Dromore water supply

Published: 16 January 2026

The Dromore drinking water treatment plant will shut down for two hours on Tuesday 20 January, as part of work to upgrade the plant.

The shutdown will be from 9.30am until 11.30am and affect all 35 properties connected to the rural supply.

The Dromore plant upgrade involves adding additional cartridge filtration and UV disinfection, and the new equipment will be housed in a new block building, near the supply’s 102m deep well.

Group Manager of Infrastructure Neil McCann said the project began in September and is in its final stages.

“The short shutdown on 20 January will enable the contractor to connect the supply pipeline to the new UV system, in preparation for commissioning some time in February.”

Two new 30,000 litre reservoirs will also be installed at the treatment plant, doubling water storage capacity.

Mr McCann said no water would be available for households during the shutdown, so people should fill the jug or store water in containers, or have a bucket full of water to use if they wanted to flush the toilet.

Dromore is the last of 10 Council water supplies to be upgraded as part of a $10 million package of work over the past 18 months.

People who have subscribed to Council’s 4196 text alert system will be reminded about the shutdown 24 hours in advance.
