The world of wearable arts is coming to Ashburton … and it has a bridal vibe.

The Ashburton Library is running a summer-time activity for children and young adults to create a bridal bouquet or hat, or a bridal garment, made out of recyclable or waste material.

Those interested in the wearable arts activity are encouraged to come along to the library on Thursday 4 December, at 6pm, to learn what it’s all about. We’ll have our youth librarian and the team from Eco Educate on hand to provide information and ideas to get your project started – your garment could be made out of plastic tape, or cardboard paint colour swatches!

Another good place to find inspiration is the Dearly Beloved exhibition at the Ashburton Museum, which opens on 13 December and will have wedding gowns from the past 100 years on display.

Entries for the Summer in Love Wearable Arts competition close on Thursday 12 February, so you’ll have all summer to visit the Makerspace at the library and access resources, sewing machines and other tools that will help bring your wearable art to life.
