Short shutdown for Argyle Park water plant

The water treatment plant at Argyle Park will be shut down for about four hours on Tuesday 17 June and residents in the Allenton area may notice reduced pressure in the water network.
The shutdown, from 9am until about 1pm, is needed for work associated with installing new UV equipment at the plant.
Group Manager of Infrastructure and Open Spaces Neil McCann said the Allenton area would be supplied by other water treatment plants on the Ashburton network during the temporary shutdown.
“Water will come from the Ashburton Domain and Bridge Street plants, and it’s possible residents might not even notice any drop in pressure. It’s important to shut the Argyle Park plant down so that our contractor ARC Projects can undertake some preliminary works."
Another shutdown will be needed in the coming weeks.
Construction of the additional utilities building began in February and has caused little disruption to Argyle Park users. The work zone is fenced off and the project is expected to be completed in November.
There are two deep bores at Argyle Park that supply water to Allenton and the wider Ashburton network.
Council is also upgrading and adding UV disinfection at water treatment plants on its other community schemes to help meet the Drinking Water Quality Assurance Rules.
