Focusing on future water options

Council has taken another step in the Local Water Done Well reform and focused its water services delivery options from three to two.
Mayor Neil Brown said the remaining options for water services delivery are a stand-alone business unit of Council and a single-council controlled organisation (CCO).
“The Council wants to retain strong control and oversight of the Ashburton District’s delivery of water services into the future.
“Council has removed the option for a single-CCO governed and managed by shared arrangement with EA Networks, and no more time and resources will be spent investigating this option.”
In October last year Council decided to focus on three local options ruling out working with other councils on multi-council CCOs.
At a Council meeting on 19 March, Council will review a detailed proposal for water services delivery.
A four-week community consultation on the proposal is scheduled to begin 27 March.
