Line Road wastewater pipe renewal to begin

Parts of Line Road, in Methven, will be closed to traffic from 18 August while new wastewater pipes are installed over the next two months.
Council’s contractor Tru-Line Civil is laying about 800 metres of 375mm diameter pipe from Methven’s wastewater treatment plant west along Line Road to the township, as part of a programme to renew ageing parts of the network.
Group Manager of Infrastructure and Open Spaces Neil McCann said the work was being done in two phases.
“In the first phase, Line Road will be closed between Dolma Street and Methven Chertsey Road, and when that pipe is in the ground we’ll close Line Road between Dolma Street and McCloys Road.
“There will be detours in place and our contractor has let businesses in the area know what is happening so they can advise staff and customers. People who use the Methven dog park should also take note, especially if they use Line Road to get to the park.”
The first phase is planned to be complete by 19 September, and the second by early October. McCloys Road will also be one-lane during the second phase of work, with no entry from Methven Chertsey Road while the detour is in place.
Mr McCann said people could expect to see excavators and other machinery on site.
“Tru-Line Civil will be replacing the old pipeline with a new one, so there’ll be trenching and connection work happening, and the road will be fully reinstated at the end of the project.
“We appreciate the road closure will cause some inconvenience but given the nature of the work, it is the most efficient and safe way to get it done.
“On-site traffic management personnel will be available to assist resident and business access, and should you need help entering or exiting your property, please just let the crew know.”
The road closures will be in place 24 hours a day, and roads will be re-opened once works have been completed or when safe to do so. Detour routes will be signposted to re-direct traffic around the site.
Methven’s wastewater plant treats sewage and used household water from 1104 connected properties in the town.
