District's roading repairs run to schedule
A 1.3km section of Pudding Hill Road has been sealed this week, as fine weather keeps the Council’s roading rehabilitation programme on track.
The newly-sealed section, either side of the intersection with Dip Road and Longsford Road, will also have new signage.
Group Manager of Infrastructure and Open Spaces Neil McCann said the section included a slippery bend, which would now be a lot safer.
“We’ve had some good weather that has helped Fulton Hogan stay on schedule, and their team should be leaving the Pudding Hill Road site soon so traffic will return to normal.”
The team will head to Beach Road East next, where temporary road closures are in place until 20 December. The work here is being done in two stages, with the first closure affecting a section between Trevors Road and Nicholls Road; the second closure will be between Trevors Road and Milton Road South. Detours are in place and signposted.
Failed areas of Beach Road East will be dug out and a new layer of pavement constructed, then the sections under repair sealed.
Mr McCann said that if the fine weather continued, the work should be completed before Christmas.
“Rehabilitations are the kind of road works that require the most investment and result in significantly improved roads. In most cases, they not only involve digging out failed pavement, and metalcourse construction, but also drainage and widening of the road.
“All the sites chosen for rehabilitation this summer had more sections of failures or potholes than others in the district, and our aim is to make them better and safer for all who use them.”
Council is spending about $2.4 million this summer on rehabilitating around 8.5km of roads. The budget for resurfacing and maintenance of other sealed and unsealed roads is about $8.2m.
The Seafield Road and Maronan Road rehabilitation work will begin after Christmas. A 1.3km section of Maronan Road, between Lills Road and Winslow Westerfield Road, and a 1.2km section of Seafield Road, between Morris Road and Cochranes Road, will be rehabilitated.
