Mayfield's new public toilets open for business

Mayfield’s new public toilets at the Mayfield Domain have opened for business today.
The new four-cubicle block and asphalt frontage has cost about $277,000 and was built over the past few months to replace old concrete block public conveniences in the domain, which is managed by Council and the Mayfield Reserve and Hall Board.
The domain, off Arundel Rakaia Gorge Road, is a popular pit stop for travellers and tourists on the Inland Route.
Infrastructure and Open Spaces Group Manager Neil McCann said security fencing around the new public toilets had been taken down today and the new conveniences were ready to use.
“There are now four modern cubicles, with access for people in wheelchairs, and there are handwashing facilities in each of the cubicles and at the end of the building.
"These new public conveniences add to the domain and will be welcomed by all who use them.”
Portaloos that provided alternative services during the construction phase have been removed.
Waste from the new conveniences is handled by a septic tank, and the building itself is painted on the outside and features stained wood.
