From Sport Canterbury: Breading brings passion and experience to Mid Canterbury role

From Sport Canterbury: Sport Canterbury is excited to announce the appointment of Alice Breading to the role of Community Advisor, Mid Canterbury.

Breading is an Ashburton local with a wealth of experience in the health sector, most recently as a family-harm practitioner for He Waka Tapu. She’s excited about her new role: “Honestly, I cannot wait to get stuck in, push the boundaries, and really assist my community.”

With a focus on supporting Play, Active Recreation and Sport (PARS) across the Ashburton District and enhancing the Healthy Active Learning (HAL) programme within the local primary school network, the role reports to the Ōtautahi Christchurch based Sector Support Manager, Megan Harlick.

“Throughout the recruitment process Alice demonstrated a passion and understanding of both the importance of developing good habits from a young age and the benefits of leading healthy active lifestyles for the wellbeing of both the individuals and the community as a whole,” says Harlick.

Breading will bring experience working alongside whanau, NGOs and government agencies, such as the NZ Police. Her strength in leadership and relationship building will be vital in continuing Sport Canterbury’s strong connections with stakeholders and partners, including the Ashburton District Council (ADC).

Alice, a busy mother of three, is also extremely passionate about sport and has recently been selected in the Mid Canterbury Open Netball team.

Sport Canterbury acknowledge Breading has huge shoes to fill following the departure of Jan Cochrane after 30 years in the role with the regional sports trust.

“We are confident that the systems, processes and relationships established by Jan will stand the organisation in good stead as Alice steps into the role.”

Alice Breading will start in the Ashburton office on Monday July 17, 2023.
