The public holiday on Friday 14 July to celebrate Matariki will see temporary changes to some Council services and facilities.

Kerbside Rubbish and Recycling

Council’s kerbside collection service will not be affected by the public holiday on Friday 14 July, so people whose bins are normally emptied on a Friday should put them out for collection as usual by 7.30am.

Resource Recovery Parks

The Ashburton Resource Recovery Park will be open Friday, from 8am-5pm. It will be open its usual hours 9am-5pm on Saturday and on Sunday.

Rakaia Resource Recovery Park and the Methven greenwaste facility will be closed on Friday.

Ashburton Public Library

The Ashburton Public Library will be closed on Friday, but open as usual on Saturday (10-1pm) and Sunday (1-4pm).

Ashburton Art Gallery and Museum

The Ashburton Art Gallery and Museum will be open 10-4pm on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

The facility is hosting the Ashburton Society of Arts annual exhibition and the 59th show is a visual delight, bringing together works from local, national and guest artists. All exhibited works are also available to purchase.

Come along at 2pm on Sunday for the Two O’Clock tour and get some insights into the exhibition from our lovely front of house staff. Don’t forget to vote for your favourite to win the People’s Choice Award.

In the museum, the Colossal Squid exhibit is still running. This exhibit, developed and toured by Te Papa, reveals some of the fascinating science and secrets of one of New Zealand’s most significant natural history specimens.

The gallery and museum will also be running In-Colour (a social colouring and craft group) from 10.30am-12pm on Friday, and all the facility’s school holiday activities will also be running over Matariki and the weekend.

EA Networks Centre

EA Networks Centre will be open Friday from 10am-5pm. It will operate usual hours on Saturday and Sunday – the stadium will be open from 7am-7pm, the gym from 7am-6pm, and the pool and aquatic area from 8am-5pm.

Customer Services

Council’s administration building on Baring Square West will close at 5pm on Thursday 13 July and re-open at 8.30am on Monday 17 July.

If you have a problem or urgently need to contact us, then the afterhours/24 hours-a-day service will be operating - please phone 03 307 7700.

Emails, Snap Send Solves and website requests will be cleared when the office opens for business as usual on Monday.

The iHub at Mt Hutt Memorial Hall in Methven will be open on Friday from 10am-2pm, and then its usual weekend hours.

Public toilets around the district will be open daily as usual over the long weekend. The public toilets at Hinds are now operational after being repaired, and the portaloos removed.
