Boil water notice updates Friday 28 July

Council has lifted its boil water notice for the Mount Somers water supply, but the notice for Methven remains in place over the weekend.
Both notices were imposed after last weekend’s heavy rain, which resulted in high turbidity in the water supplies.
Mount Somers was lifted at 4.15pm today (Friday 28 July) after the water treatment plant returned to normal operation and reported three consecutive days of clear testing.
Methven’s water treatment plant has taken longer to recover, and it is hoped the boil water notice will be lifted on Monday 31 July.
A water tanker remains in Methven, outside the Methven Medical Centre, and the tanker is doing business delivery runs twice a day. People can take their clean containers to the tanker and fill up at any time.
People connected to the Methven scheme are advised to boil their drinking water, water used in food preparation, and for hygiene purposes for at least one minute before consumption.
Work on Methven’s new membrane water treatment plant is nearing completion, with the process of commissioning about to begin.
The membrane plant will be able to treat water with high turbidity.
