UPDATE: BOIL WATER NOTICE LIFTED 5pm 11/08
Sunday 7 August, 9am - The Ashburton District Council has issued a 'boil water notice' for Mount Somers water supply, effective immediately.
Saturday 6 August, 5pm - The Ashburton District Council has issued a 'boil water notice' for Methven Township water supply, effective immediately.
The EA Networks Centre pool area will temporarily open one hour later at 8am instead of 7am on Saturdays only over the next four weeks, due to staff shortages. The pool area will still close at the usual time of 5pm. This change is effective over the next four Saturdays from August 6 until August 27.
Nominations are starting to roll in, as the lead-up to the local elections in October ramps up. To stand for election nominees only need to meet three requirements – to be aged over eighteen, a New Zealand Citizen, and enrolled to vote. In nearly three months’ time, a new Council and Methven Community Board will embark on another three years, making decisions on the economic, social, cultural and environmental wellbeing of this community.
Last Wednesday July 27, Ashburton District Council adopted a new Play, Active Recreation and Sport Strategy. The strategy is formed around the vision of everybody included, having fun being active and includes an action plan to achieve this.
Last weekend’s Glow in the Park celebration was a thank you from EA Networks to the community to mark their centenary - 100 years of providing power in Mid Canterbury. Just under 10,000 people attended the event at the Tinwald Domain and Plains Vintage Railway precinct.
As we've seen recently, flooding is Canterbury's most common hazard. Our large braided alpine rivers flow across the Canterbury Plains and can flood during northwesterly rainstorms, often when it is warm and sunny on the Plains.
The Ashburton District Council has issued a precautionary boil water notice for the Methven-Springfield water supply, effective immediately. It comes as a result of poor weather causing high turbidity in the scheme.
The Hinds township water supply will be shut down for two hours on Monday 1 August between 9am and 11am while contractors repair a leak at the water treatment plant.
The Ashburton District Council is envisioning a more active and financially sustainable Ashburton Airport as it asks for community feedback on a new draft plan for its future.
