​Two teams of contractors are busy keeping the Ashburton CBD streetscape upgrades on schedule, with work happening day and night along Tancred Street this month.

The Ashburton District Council is praising residents for their marked improvement in recycling habits after conducting more than 45,000 audits on the district's yellow bins. Mid Cantabrians, like thousands around the country have been adjusting to changes to the kinds of plastics that are accepted for recycling, and with only a slim level of contamination allowed at the Christchurch sorting centre, that's meant residents have had to work hard to get their sorting on point.

People looking for the right gifts to put under the tree this Christmas will be treated to a musical evening of late night shopping at Mid Canterbury's third annual Buskers Night, presented by the Ashburton Courier on Thursday 3 December.
A number of Ashburton CBD retailers will be open late for the event and the sound of Christmas bargains will be accompanied with the sound of local musicians, dancers and performers throughout the town centre.

A special evening of Filipino food, entertainment and storytelling will descend on the Ashburton Domain on Saturday 7 November as New Zealand's first public Filipino Hut Garden is unveiled, and all are welcome to attend. Representatives from Mid Canterbury's Filipino community have partnered with the Ashburton District Welcoming Communities programme to install a garden that celebrates Filipino culture and creates welcoming public spaces.
