Recruitment Process

What is the Recruitment Process?

It's important that we find the right people for the right jobs and to ensure we do this, we use the following process:

We advertise the vacancies in a range of media suitable for the positions. Submit application for employment by our online recruitment system, providing a copy of your CV and a cover letter, via the link on our website, ashburtondc.govt.nz prior to the closing date for the advert. Include your email address if you wish to receive acknowledgement of your application - within 5 working days.

We review all applications and shortlist applicants with the skills, qualifications, and experience required. If you are shortlisted, you will be sent a link to complete a short video screening, where you answer some questions and video yourself for our recruitment team to get to know you a better. For some roles we will do this via a telephone call. We will then contact you within 8 working days to arrange an interview if you are selected. If you are not shortlisted, you will be notified within 10 working days.

We will organise a one-on-one video interview to allow the recruiters and hiring managers to get to know you better, and we will follow this up with a face-to-face interview with shortlisted applicants. The interview will involve behavioural and technical questions and could include a practical component. We also conduct work related reference checks for the preferred candidate before offering employment. You can expect to hear the final outcome of the recruitment process within 8 working days of your interview.

If successful, we will contact you by phone to make a verbal offer of employment and will then follow this up with a written offer within 5 working days. You should review the offer and formally notify us of your decision within 5 days of the verbal offer.

We will guide you through your induction, introducing you to the various departments of Ashburton District Council, getting you familiar with your position and work environment.
