Council services over Canterbury Anniversary weekend 2025

Canterbury Anniversary Day will be celebrated on Friday 14 November and the public holiday will mean changes for some council services.
There is no change to the kerbside rubbish and recycling service though, so put your bins out at usual by 7.30am if Friday is your usual collection day.
The Ashburton Art Gallery and Museum and EA Networks Centre will also be open every day of the long weekend.
If you’re on the roads then take extra care, as there’s a lot happening in Christchurch with NZ Cup Week and the Royal A&P Show and more traffic than usual is expected.
Rubbish and recycling
There is no change to kerbside rubbish and recycling collections, and Friday’s collection will take place as usual, with residents to have their wheelie bins out by 7.30am. Remember to use your windstrap, whether it's windy or not.
Resource Recovery Parks
The Ashburton Resource Recovery Park will be open on Friday from 9am-5pm, and on Saturday from 9am-6pm, and Sunday from 9am-5pm.
The Methven green waste dropoff will be open Sunday from 12pm until 4pm.
The Rakaia Resource Recovery Park will be closed on Friday, and open on Saturday from 9am-3pm.
EA Networks Centre
Burn off some energy every day of the long weekend as the EA Networks Centre will be open on Friday from 10am-5pm, and as usual on Saturday and Sunday (7am-7pm).
Gym classes on Canterbury Anniversary Day include Aquafit at 10.15am, Evolve at 11am, Revolution at 12.15pm and The Trip at 3.30pm.
There will be no swim school lessons on Friday 14 November.
Ashburton Library Te Kete Tuhinga
The Ashburton Library will be closed on Friday, but open Saturday and Sunday from 10am-4pm as usual.
Ashburton Art Gallery and Museum
The Ashburton Art Gallery and Museum will be open 10am-4pm on Canterbury Anniversary Friday, and from 10am-4pm on Saturday and Sunday.
The Hakatere Ceramic and Pottery Club is holding its annual exhibition and members’ prize-winning pieces will be on display until 30 November.
Customer Services
Council’s Customer Services counter at Te Whare Whakatere will be closed Friday, Saturday and Sunday, re-opening on Monday 17 November 8.30am. If you have a problem or urgently need to contact us, then the afterhours service will be operating 24/7 - please phone 03 307 7700.
