Traffic delays on Bridge Street expected as tank removed

Bridge Street from the Netherby roundabout to Seafield Road will be under temporary traffic light management next week while contractors remove a wastewater tank near the entrance to the Hampstead Sports Club.
The work is being undertaken by ACL and is part of final works in a $10 million new sewer pipeline project that adds huge capacity to Ashburton’s wastewater network.
The traffic light management will operate between 7.30am until 5.30pm, from Monday 13 June until Friday 17 June, when the work is expected to be complete. Residents who live along Bridge Street will be able to enter and exit their properties as usual.
Motorists using Bridge Street can expect some delays and are asked to follow the directions of traffic management crew. The speed limit through the area will be reduced to 30km/h while work is in progress.
Removing the wastewater retention tank on Bridge Street completes work on the Ashburton Relief Sewer, which has involved the construction of 7.2km of new pipeline from Bridge Street to Milton Road.
The new pipeline then connects with Council’s recently built sewer pipeline under the Ashburton River and pump station that takes wastewater from the town’s toilets, sinks and drains to the Wilkins Road treatment facility at Tinwald.
