New path to be built for dog park users

Ground conditions are finally dry enough for contractors to finish work at the Ashburton Dog Park and the area will be closed on Tuesday 13 September and Wednesday 14 September for the work to continue.
The contractors will be creating a gravel path through both exercise areas, and preparing an area for dog agility equipment to be installed at a later date.
It’s hoped the park will only be closed for a couple of days while the work is carried out.
The dog park has been rebuilt following the floods of May 2021, when it was mostly under water after the Ashburton River burst its banks, taking out fences and leaving shingle and debris around the park.
Residents will be able to use the new 20-space car park at the end of Cass Street, next to the Kmart development, once the exercise areas re-open. The car park leads to an entrance box to separate areas for small and all dogs.
If you’re looking for somewhere else to exercise your dog, you could try any of Council’s other designated dog exercise areas – popular spots include Argyle Park, Company Road and Smallbone Drive Reserve.
Poo bag dispensers are located at all exercise areas, details of which can be found on our website.
