High winds close recovery parks, bring warnings

The Ashburton Resource Recovery Park and the Rakaia Resource Recovery Park are both closed this morning because of high winds.
Council will be monitoring the situation and reviewing hourly.
Rubbish and recycling collections in Tinwald, Methven, Mt Somers and Mayfield are going ahead as usual, but residents are being asked not to put their bins out if they don’t have to, and to wait until their next collection. Please use wind straps if you have them and need to put your bins out.
Waka Kotahi is also warning motorists on State Highway 1 between Timaru and Rakaia to take extra care, especially if they are driving high-sided vehicles or motorcycles.
