From Waka Kotahi: Night works on Walnut Avenue

Published: 4 February 2022

From Waka Kotahi/NZTA: We have been talking to our residential neighbours about our plan for four weeks of night works starting next week. If you live adjacent to our work site, please keep the contact number below in a safe place as we are here to help you as much as possible.

We won't be working every night and we are going to do our best to limit the disruption. Our aim is to get the most disruptive work carried out first and to complete the work as quickly as we can.

Why do we sometimes work at night?

We are undertaking these night works to increase safety for the work crews and to minimise the disruption along and close to the state highway. By having day and night crews, we can also shorten the time it takes to complete the works.

When and where?

We will be working along West Street (SH1) and East Street in the project vicinity.  We expect to be working for the next four weeks starting Monday 7 February. We do not work on Friday and Saturday nights. Night shift is between the hours of 7:00pm and 6:00am.

Will traffic be able to get through?

Two-way traffic will be maintained during the day. At night there will be some lane closures but a stop/go traffic management system will be in place to allow traffic to get through. Footpath access around our work site will be maintained. Please be on the lookout for changes in traffic management and follow the signs. A 30kph speed limit will be in place.

What will happen if there is bad weather?

We will be removing the existing road surface and constructing the new road pavements. Bad weather can interrupt this type of work and change our programme.  If this occurs we will send another update.

What type of disruption should neighbours expect?

There will be noise from trucks, machinery and the crew working overnight. You may also notice extra light coming from the street.

Access to properties will be maintained however, we may need to work in front of driveways from time to time. If you need to get into or out of your property, please advise a staff member.

We are sorry for the disruption that this will cause and we will do our best to limit the disruption as much as possible.
