Youth Council serve up a celebration of Mid Canterbury at Bite Nite Reimagined

Great entertainment, inclusiveness, fun and atmosphere - that was the feedback families who came to the Ashburton Youth Council's (AYC) Bite Nite Reimagined had to say of the event on Friday 2 October.
The fourth annual Bite Nite saw 600 people head to the EA Networks Centre for a night of sport, dance, performances, giant inflatables, food and a headline act from Kiwi hip-hop sensation, Rei.
The night also raised $120.00 for the Kānuka Mid Canterbury Regeneration Trust - a local group passionate about protecting the district's biodiversity.
Ashburton District Council delegate for AYC, Cr Lynette Lovett said Bite Nite was a fantastic celebration of some of the best tastes, sport and activities Mid Canterbury has to offer.
"It was wonderful to see hundreds turn out for another special Bite Nite. AYC had been working hard for months bringing the event together and this was their biggest and best yet.
"The sport, food and performances were a real hit and hosting it at the EA Networks Centre meant there was even more room for new activities to enjoy."
Event goers enjoyed diverse cuisines from the Vagabond Chefs, Yes Chef Catering and Events, Indian Minar, Eat Café, MZ Indian Cuisine, Black Forest Waffle Hut and Aoraki Lil Orbit Donuts.
Basketball, netball and futsal showcases between the Canterbury Rams, Mid Canterbury Basketball, Mid Canterbury Netball, Futsal Dragons and Mid Canterbury Futsal gave spectators a taste of some of the regions' best athletes in action.
The EA Networks Centre's giant inflatables were also a popular hit with the kids, and there was plenty of dancing as the Kakodo West African Drummers & Dancers, Wishlistt and Rei took to the stage throughout the night.
AYC wishes to thank all of the businesses, performers and groups who helped to make Bite Nite Reimagined a reality.
For those keen to see Bite Nite return, AYC have confirmed they will be looking to bring back the event for another year in October 2021.
