Night crews helping to minimise disruption during CBD upgrades

Published: 13 July 2020

Tru-Line Civil contractors will be carrying out some of their work at night over coming weeks as they upgrade the Ashburton CBD streetscape, in an effort to help keep disruptions to businesses and visitors as low as possible.

The contractor will begin operating two crews for the project from today (one day time and one night time crew) when they get started on installing a new water pipeline down Tancred Street. The work will be carried out between 6pm and 6am, meaning the street will be inaccessible to vehicles and pedestrians overnight.

The road and footpath will be reopened during the day.

Over on Burnett Street, a new concrete stormwater pipeline is set to be installed on 20 and 21 July at the Cass Street end of the street. This section of Burnett Street will be closed while work is underway, however traffic will still have access from East Street.

Meanwhile on Cass Street, new gardens, rain gardens, tree pits and kerbing is being built along the street. The Tru-Line Civil team have been constructing the above-ground features on one side of the road, heading towards Moore Street. They will make their way back to Havelock Street when they swap to the other side of the road.

Moore Street will have a new stormwater pipe and sump installed at the Cass Street intersection towards the end of July. The intersection will remain open, however it will be reduced to one lane and operate under 'stop/go' conditions. It's expected the work will take 10 days to complete.

Further work is expected to start on Moore Street in August that will close the Moore/Cass Street intersection for one week. More details on a start date are expected in coming weeks.
