UPDATE 18/08: Yesterday, Council resolved to extend the due date of the first instalment from August 20 to August 29. Due to the extension, any late payment penalties that may have been applied August 21 will be remitted (cancelled) and penalties applied at the later date of 5 September, so that ratepayers are not disadvantaged by the delay in mail deliveries.
​When the Daffodils start to pop up above ground and the Rhododendron’s start budding, it’s a wonderful sign that Spring is just around the corner. In the Community Services group at Council, Spring is a time we look forward to.
The Chorus Cabinet Art Programme is back in Ashburton District and the call is out for design submissions from local artists across the district.
Community groups and individuals are being encouraged to think about projects that could benefit from financial help from various funds administered by the Ashburton District Council.
August sees the arrival of three new exhibitions at the Ashburton Art Gallery and Museum. Now’s the perfect time to visit and enjoy these beautiful and intriguing works, from local and New Zealand artists.
UPDATE: BOIL WATER NOTICE LIFTED 5pm 11/08
Sunday 7 August, 9am - The Ashburton District Council has issued a 'boil water notice' for Mount Somers water supply, effective immediately.
Saturday 6 August, 5pm - The Ashburton District Council has issued a 'boil water notice' for Methven Township water supply, effective immediately.
The EA Networks Centre pool area will temporarily open one hour later at 8am instead of 7am on Saturdays only over the next four weeks, due to staff shortages. The pool area will still close at the usual time of 5pm. This change is effective over the next four Saturdays from August 6 until August 27.
Nominations are starting to roll in, as the lead-up to the local elections in October ramps up. To stand for election nominees only need to meet three requirements – to be aged over eighteen, a New Zealand Citizen, and enrolled to vote. In nearly three months’ time, a new Council and Methven Community Board will embark on another three years, making decisions on the economic, social, cultural and environmental wellbeing of this community.
Last Wednesday July 27, Ashburton District Council adopted a new Play, Active Recreation and Sport Strategy. The strategy is formed around the vision of everybody included, having fun being active and includes an action plan to achieve this.
