Code of conduct approved for community facilities

Councillors have approved a code of conduct for people visiting the Ashburton Art Gallery and Museum, EA Networks Centre, and the Ashburton Library and Civic Centre.
The code sets standards that all visitors can expect, whether from staff or fellow visitors.
Group Manager for People and Facilities, Sarah Mosley, said each facility previously had a separate process and the new code combined best practice into one document.
“Ninety-nine per cent of the time visitors enjoy our facilities as we desire. When this doesn’t occur, we want staff to act promptly, so it doesn’t disrupt the experience of others.”
The code is a two-way document. Visitors are expected to treat other visitors and staff with courtesy and respect, follow the rules and treat property with care.
Staff are responsible for creating a safe and welcoming environment, and will provide friendly and helpful service, while treating everyone with respect.
Ms Mosley said the code provides a range options to staff to address a situation if a visitor breaches the code of conduct.
“The underpinning focus of the code is that we want all visitors to enjoy using our facilities.”
