SH1 Tinwald corridor project - night works planned

Published: 6 November 2023

Contractors installing new traffic lights at Tinwald will also be working during the night for two weeks from Sunday 12 November.

The work will be on State Highway 1, between Grahams Road and Johnstone Street and involve laying new asphalt approaching the traffic light intersection at the corner of Lagmhor Road and Agnes Street.

The SH1 Tinwald corridor improvements are a Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency project. Here's the latest update from Waka Kotahi about the work:

What is happening during the night works?

From Sunday 12 November, for approximately two weeks, between 7pm and 6am, we will be working to remove the existing road surface and laying new asphalt to resurface the lanes approaching the SH1/Agnes St/Lagmhor Road intersection. This work will require the work site to be controlled by temporary traffic lights. The work is being undertaken at night when traffic volumes are lower to minimise congestion and disruption. It is also safer for our work crews and road users. Please note - we will not work on Friday and Saturday nights.

Night works and what to expect

The crew need lights to see what they are working on so you may notice extra light in the area. There will be unavoidable noise from trucks, machinery and the crew. We know that night works are disruptive to residents. Our team will limit this disruption as much as possible. We will aim to carry out the noisiest work early in the shift and we will complete the work as quickly as we can.

Traffic and pedestrian impacts

We will be implementing a temporary one lane traffic management layout controlled by traffic lights between the hours of 7pm and 6am. Outside of these working hours, two way traffic will be reinstated - please note that there will be no right hand turns available at the SH1/Agnes St/Lagmhor Road intersection at all during this time. There will be reduced lane widths during the day so delays may occur. Please look out for our staff and follow their instructions. Footpath access around our work site will be maintained. Also, please look out for changes in traffic management and follow signs on site. A 30kph speed limit will be in place.

Driveway access

Access to properties will be maintained. However, we may need to work in front of driveways from time to time. If you need to get into or out of your property and we are in the way, please just talk to one of our friendly staff and we will make sure you can use your driveway.
