Talks: Chris Pole and Merv Falconer

About the event

In this double-header event, we’ll be hearing from artist Chris Pole about his current exhibition Crooked Spur, and Merv Falconer, Chief Pilot for Mount Cook Airways from 1974-84, in connection with our From Tasman Glacier to Table Service exhibition.

In Crooked Spur, Chris Pole’s unconventional landscape paintings inspired by his travels throughout the mid-Canterbury and upper Rakitata regions, use a diagonal ‘slice’ to offset the imagery. These paintings bring the viewer into the landscape as a participant rather than an observer. Merv Falconer will give a presentation on the history and development of ski plane operations in Aoraki Mount Cook National Park and Haupapa Tasman Glacier from the mid-1950s to the 2000s.
