Stockwater Exit: Brothers and Alford Forest intakes

The Brothers stockwater intake.
Community members interested in the future of the Brothers stockwater intake are being invited to a public meeting at Mayfield on 2 September and encouraged to have their say via an online survey.
The intake is one of 17 being considered for possible closure as Council implements a three-year plan to exit its stockwater delivery service.
The Alford Forest intake is also under consideration at the moment, with the wider community able to give feedback until Monday 1 September.
Group Manager of Infrastructure and Open Spaces Neil McCann said the Brothers intake serviced about 150 properties, and those who paid stockwater rates for this water had already been surveyed via a private letter.
“Now it’s the turn of the wider community to provide their thoughts on the future of the intake.”
Council has also organised a community meeting at the Mayfield Hall on 2 September at 4pm to discuss the Brothers intake.
Mr McCann said while the Brothers was one of the larger intakes, Alford Forest was a small and unreliable intake.
“We actually have no property owners paying for stockwater from the Alford Forest intake, but we have written to nearby properties to alert them about the work. We are progressing straight to the public survey for this intake and people can access it online until 1 September.”
Council is working through the list of 17 intakes gathering information from users, including if they would have an alternative water source should their intake be closed.
Mr McCann said some key reports had already been generated in the intake assessments completed so far.
“These are available to the public on our website and people can read them and learn more about the stockwater system overall. We know Council’s decision to exit its stockwater service by 2027 will mean changes for some of our current users and we want them to be as informed as possible.”
The future of each intake will be decided by Councillors, with a recommendation from the Stockwater Transition Working Group.
