Museum packs up Critters, Creatures, and Curiosities, prepares for Hakatere Home and Heritage

Ashburton Museum has been busy this week packing down its Critters, Creatures and Curiosities exhibition, which included a 100-year-old stag’s head donated to the Ashburton Historical Society in 1979.

The stag was shot near Staveley by C. J. Peter of Anama and preserved for display; it was donated by his nephew.

Museum staff have carefully shifted it back into storage, along with many other animal-related items on display over the past three months. Each item is checked for damage and stored away, until it is called on again.

The Museum’s Murney Room and other activity space is being prepared for the Hakatere Home and Heritage exhibition, featuring 16 local families, which opens on July 9.
