Private well drinking water

The Council issued a boil water advisory for residents in north-east Ashburton with private bore water connections on 24 October 2019. The Council removed this advisory on 18 December 2019, however ALL residents in the district who rely on private wells for their drinking water are reminded to regularly test their wells to ensure the water is safe to drink.

​​I use a private well for my drinking water, what are my responsibilities?

As the owner of a private well, you are responsible for carrying out regular testing to ensure the water is safe to drink. It is recommended that tests for E.coli are done at least four times a year, and once annually for nitrates.​
