The first few rays of spring sunshine have begun to thaw out the Ashburton District in the past week, but if the warmth wasn't enough to let you know that spring was here, then the blossoms and blooming flowers around the Ashburton Domain certainly would.
Poppies, pansies, daffodils and lupins are just some of the flowers now colouring the garden beds around the Domain, providing a burst of fragrance for visitors along the expansive lawns and walkways.
Preparation for the Domain's standout season began in April and May, when the garden beds were planted. Prominent beds, such as the one welcoming visitors at the West Street/Wills Street entrance are planted twice a year by the Council's dedicated Opens Spaces staff.
The plants are grown in-house too, in the Council's nursery in the Domain. Planting this particular garden takes roughly one day.
See the Ashburton Domain in all it's glory this spring by popping in for a walk through the gardens or bring the family and a blanket for a picnic on the lawns.
