Here is a schedule of the activities and attractions at the Ashburton Domain on Sunday November 30 for the Domain's 150th anniversary celebrations.
Family Day at the Ashburton Domain 10am – 4pm
From 10am about 40 craft and food stalls will be dotted among the 12 artworks created by sculptures from throughout New Zealand during a stone carving symposium earlier this month.
11.30am – the teddy bears' picnic, held by the paddling pool on Walnut Avenue. There will be a magician, face painting, a dance competition and egg and spoon racing. Runs until about 1.30pm.
11.30am – A guided tour of the Domain, departing from Council's Parks and Open Spaces office, just inside the large black wrought iron gates on West Street.
1.30pm – Stone carving auction. To be held on the Long Lawn adjacent to the layby off West Street, in the same area they are currently on display.
2pm – Music Concert in the same area as the auction. Music from the Civic Music Council.
Other activities and attractions.
Open days at the Ashburton Bowling Club and the Waireka Croquet Club will hold open days.
20/20 cricket games for interested spectators.
The Ashburton Railway and Preservation Society will bring its McLaren traction engine, which will be parked near the Domain office building, just off West Street.
Lots of fun to be had at the paddling pool. Great place to cool off this summer.
