A
precautionary boil water notice has been issued for the Mt Somers water supply,
effective immediately. Residents connected to this scheme should boil their
drinking water, and water used in food preparation and for hygiene purposes for
at least one minute before consuming.
The
Ashburton District Council has issued the notice after monitoring equipment
detected high levels of turbidity in the water today. It also issued a boil
water notice for the Methven water supply earlier today, which remains in
place.
Although
the treatment equipment for both water schemes is working correctly, it is less
effective during periods of high turbidity, and the Council has issued the
notices as a precaution.
It
is believed that the turbidity has been caused by the exceptionally heavy
rainfall currently being experienced in the district.
The
precautionary boil water notices will remain in place until further advised by
Council.
