Ashburton
District Council advises that a precautionary boil water notice has been issued
for the Methven water supply, effective immediately.
Residents
connected to this scheme should boil their drinking water, and water used in
food preparation and for hygiene purposes for at least one minute before consuming,
after monitoring equipment detected turbidity in the water today.
Although
the water treatment equipment is working correctly, it is less effective during
periods of high turbidity, and the Council has issued the boil water notice as
a precaution.
It
is believed that the turbidity has been caused by the exceptionally heavy rainfall
currently being experienced in the district.
The
precautionary boil water notice will remain in place until further advised by
Council.
