Ashburton
District Council is advising people parked in the Ashburton CBD this Thursday
(30 November) to not be alarmed if they see people taking note of parked
vehicles in the vicinity, as they will be conducting a survey.
Surveyors
will be walking the CBD recording the last three digits of parked vehicle
licence plates as part of the Council’s review of its parking strategy.
“The
survey is not an enforcement exercise - it’s to gather data on parking
occupancy and turnover. The results from the survey will feed into a larger
project that will look at traffic and parking options for the CBD,” Council
Environmental Services Group Manager Jane Donaldson says.
The
surveyors will be wearing hi-vis clothing and will be carrying clipboards. The
survey area will include the West Street carpark and East Street, as well as
Havelock, Burnett, Tancred, Moore and Cass streets.
