If you pay for Council services and activities on the Ashburton District Council website, make sure you are using an updated version of your internet browser, as payments will not go through if some older browsers are used from 19 June 2018.
The Council's hosting provider, which securely processes online payments, is changing its configuration to ensure that the Council website continues to be secure and that the data hosted on it is protected. This configuration won't allow certain older versions of internet browsers to work when people attempt to make an online payment.
"Most people will already be using a newer version of their internet browser, so this issue won't affect them. For people who haven't updated theirs lately, we recommend they upgrade it to the latest version or download a new browser," Council Information Systems Manager Gordon Tupper says.
If people attempt to make an online payment using an old browser, they will be directed to a webpage telling them, 'the web browser does not support current security standards'. The payment will not be processed, and the person will need to go through the process again using an updated or new browser.
"We apologise for any inconvenience this will cause. Website security is vitally important to us and progress in this area requires regular reviews. Some internet browsers simply aren't able to provide the security we need to be able to conduct business in a safe and secure way," Mr Tupper adds.
