Council is encouraging people to complete and return their hydroslide survey before December 1 to have their say on a hydroslide feature at the EA Networks Centre.
The survey and hydroslide information brochure was delivered to households on October 30th inside a weekly community newspaper as well as being available at Council offices, the Ashburton Library and online via Council's website.
To date 1066 surveys have been returned to Council and with less than two weeks remaining, Senior Communications Advisor Nyia Strachan is expecting a spike in survey returns very soon given that hydroslides are a widely talked about topic in the community at present.
"It's been a pretty successful response to the survey so far and I'm predicting, as the December 1 deadline draws closer, there will be a late rush of surveys."
Ms Strachan says the next stage of the process will be to collate the survey results which, along with other considerations and information, will be used to help Council decide on the best way to proceed.
That preferred option will then be included into the Long Term Plan which is out for consultation in early 2015. This is when people can make a detailed submission to Council.
"It is important people complete the survey as it gives Council a direction from the community on the options that are available and this helps shape what Council puts forward in the Long Term Plan."
Council has received 579 online surveys, 389 have been mailed and 98 were dropped off at Council.
"The survey has been a fantastic way to hear from the community about what they think about having a hydroslide at the EA Networks Centre and what they would like to see happen," Ms Strachan says.
