Residents on the Montalto and Mt
Somers water supplies are now safe to consume the water as normal, following Ashburton
District Council’s decision to lift the boil water notices in place.
Test results for the Montalto water
supply have come back clear for E.Coli on three consecutive days, while the Mt
Somers water quality has returned to normal after experiencing high levels of
Council Assets Manager Andrew Guthrie
says water tests were carried out over the weekend, and Sunday’s results show
both supplies are now back to normal.
“The two schemes were put on a
precautionary boil water notice on 9 October, after monitoring equipment at the
facilities detected high levels of turbidity – or cloudiness in the water.
E.Coli was later detected in the Montalto supply, but test results have since
shown the water is safe to consume as normal. We are now also satisfied with
the quality of the Mt Somers water and have lifted this notice as well.”
Three days of clear tests for E.Coli
must come back before Council can remove a boil water notice, while turbidity
levels must decrease to a level where water treatment equipment is able to
effectively treat the water.
