Residents on the Mayfield water scheme can now use hand-held hoses
from today, as Ashburton District Council relaxes the Level Four water
restriction in place to a Level Three.
Under the new restriction, hand-held hosing is permitted on
alternate days between the hours of 6pm and midnight.
“We have tentatively decided to ease the restriction for Mayfield
because the bore water level has been steadily increasing over the last few
months,” Council Assets Manager Andrew Guthrie says.
“The Mayfield community has been very understanding during the
last 10 months when the Level Four restriction was put in place, and we
acknowledge their assistance in conserving the water as best as possible.”
Council issued a Level Four water restriction for Mayfield in
October last year, when low water levels were detected. Council encouraged
residents to check for water leaks around their properties, and also introduced
water meters to help identify any major leaks.
Details on the hosing schedule for a Level Three water restriction
are available on the Council website.
