People in the Ashburton District are being asked to submit their feedback on how they think they should be represented on a local government level, as part of the Ashburton District Council’s mandatory Representation Review.

Feedback is being welcomed until Thursday 12 April, and residents can have their say through a short survey available on the Council website or from the Council reception.

“All local authorities are required to undertake a Representation Review at least once every six years to ensure the council is achieving effective and fair representation in the district,” Council Community Relations Manager Vincie Billante says.

“We strongly encourage everyone to have their say, as the feedback will help inform the decision-making process. The community have multiple opportunities to provide input, starting with the survey. A formal proposal will then be developed later in the year and anyone can make a submission. The resulting representation arrangements will be in place ready for the next local body elections in 2019.”

The review includes looking at the number of wards and elected members Council has and the way members are elected – either whole of district, by wards or a combination of the two. The defining of the ward boundaries and the existence and structure of community boards is also being considered.

To submit feedback, visit the Council office at 5 Baring Square West, Ashburton or head to ashburtondc.govt.nz/haveyoursay
