Ashburton District Council will close the EA Networks Centre pool at 3.00pm today (Tuesday 21 February) following the high temperatures affecting the safety of staff and visitors.
The pool area of the EANC has reached an unsafe temperature, and residents are advised the pool will remain closed until the end of the day.
"Regretfully, we have to close the EANC pool to visitors this afternoon. We simply can't risk the safety of the public and our staff. When temperatures inside the area reach a certain temperature, it is unsafe for anyone to be in. We apologise for any inconvenience this closure may cause anyone," Council Service Delivery Group Manager Neil McCann says.
Council has opened the Tinwald Community Pool early to ensure swimmers have somewhere to go while the EANC pool is temporarily closed.
All other areas of the EANC will remain open and operate as usual.
"The pool will be reopened tomorrow morning, and we will continue to monitor the area's temperature tomorrow afternoon," Mr McCann adds.
The EANC pool must close when temperatures reach 31 degrees Celsius inside the pool area. Council had warned earlier today that it may have to close the pool due to the high temperatures predicted for Ashburton.
