Local cafe owners have been awarded the contract for the EA Networks Centre cafe.
Kim and Howard Jamison, who own Taste Cafe in Willis Street, have been awarded the tender by Ashburton District Council to set up a new cafe at the first-class aquatic and recreational facility.
The complex opened in May this year, with four indoor pools, a relaxing spa and steam room, four indoor courts and two outdoor courts. It offers a broad range of aquatic and fitness facilities, including Les Mills group fitness classes, AshSwim Swim School, aqua fitness classes and a fully equipped gym room.
Ashburton District Councillor Russell Ellis says the cafe is the finishing touch to the EA Networks Centre. "I'm looking forward to it opening. I'm sure the cafe will become a destination in its own right."
The cafe will be called EAT. The menu will start small, with coffee, juices, smoothies and cabinet food, and will later include cooked breakfast and lunch options.
Kim Jamison says the new venture is an exciting challenge. "The EA Networks Centre is amazing for Ashburton and to be part of it is fantastic."
The cafe will also feature a children's play area, which Kim hopes will make it even more popular with families.
Taste Cafe has been operating in Ashburton since 2006.
EAT will open from late next week and will be operating at full capacity within a month.
