More homes on the outskirts of Ashburton will soon have connections to the towns drinking water system, as work began today to extend the service along Beach Road East.
The Ashburton District Council is extending the watermain from Trevors Road to approximately 850m down Beach Road East. The project has been timed to coincide with the major roadworks currently happening on Beach Road to reduce disruption to the Beach Road/Trevors Road intersection.
Council Service Delivery Group Manager, Neil McCann says the extension will provide for increased growth in the town.
"There has been strong interest from landowners to develop the area. Ashburton's population has been steadily expanding over the years, and with more people projected to settle in our district, we need to ensure our infrastructure will support that growth."
The Council will first extend the service across the Trevors Road intersection this month, before installing the watermain up Beach Road East in November.
