Dog owners have until 31 July 2016 to register or re-register their pets and working dogs with Ashburton District Council.
"All dogs three months old and over must be registered before the end of July to avoid a late penalty," Environmental Monitoring Manager Rick Catchpowle says.
"New dogs as well as those whose details have changed since their last registration need to be registered in the Council office on Baring Square West, not on the Council website. Existing dog owners with the same registration details can re-register their pets using the Council website".
Residents can re-register their dogs using the most up-to-date web browser here.
Mr Catchpowle added it is important for dogs to be registered on time, as unregistered pets can be seized from 12 September.
"Unfortunately, if dogs are left unregistered, infringements will be issued from 1 September. Dogs may then be seized if they continue to be unregistered, so please don’t forget to register your pet."
Dog registration forms were posted to owners between 1 and 3 July, and anyone who hasn’t received theirs should contact Council on 03 307 7700.
